The best home EV charger is the one that fits your parking space, electricity tariff and installation, not simply the most expensive unit. In Proper Solar's current range, our starting recommendation is the Vestel Libra for a lower upfront price, the Ohme Home Pro for a tethered charger with listed smart-tariff integrations, or the MyEnergi Zappi GLO when solar charging is a priority.

This comparison uses the seven active chargers in our Products catalogue, checked on 8 October 2026. Prices below are the advertised standard-installation starting prices, including VAT, at that date. Promotions and available options can change. Follow each product link for its current price; your property assessment determines whether additional work is needed.

Best home EV chargers: the quick shortlist

    • Lowest starting price: Vestel Libra, £749 on offer, usual catalogue price £799. Single-phase 7.4kW, socketed, solar mode and load balancing listed.
    • Lower-cost charger with rewards eligibility: EVEC vecGO, £849 on offer, usual price £899. Single-phase 7.4kW, untethered, ECO solar mode and vecFLEX-ready.
    • Socketed smart-tariff option: Ohme ePod, £949 on offer, usual price £999. Single-phase 7.4kW with Octopus Intelligent Go, Go and Agile listed in the catalogue.
    • App-controlled socketed option: NexBlue Point 2, £949 on offer, usual price £999. Single-phase 7.4kW, Wi-Fi, app scheduling and load balancing. This catalogue model is not marked as having solar mode.
    • Solar-focused option: MyEnergi Zappi GLO, £1,049 on offer, usual price £1,099. Single-phase 7kW with a listed 6.5m tethered Type 2 cable and solar charging modes.
    • Tethered smart-tariff option with a display: Ohme Home Pro, £1,049 on offer, usual price £1,099. Single-phase 7.4kW, 5m cable, LCD display and listed Octopus integrations.
    • Design-led option: Simpson & Partners Home 7 Plus, £1,199 on offer, usual price £1,249. Single-phase 7kW, socketed, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and solar support.

These are comparisons within our own range, not a claim that we have tested every UK charger or that one brand is universally more reliable. Where a specification is not recorded, we have not filled the gap with an assumption.

Vestel Libra: the lowest-priced option in our range

The Libra's £749 starting price makes it the least expensive active charger in our catalogue at the time of review. The listed specification includes a Type 2 socket, 7.4kW single-phase charging, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the Vestel Venus Life app, scheduling, load management and solar mode. Warranty is listed as three years.

It is a sensible shortlist for a household that wants app-controlled charging without the highest upfront cost. Because it is socketed, check your charging cable and its reach to the car. The catalogue lists Octopus Go in its supported-tariff field. Scheduling during a cheap window is not, by itself, proof of a direct smart-tariff integration, so confirm the specific service before choosing it for that reason.

EVEC vecGO: value, solar mode and optional rewards

The current product is EVEC vecGO, the vecGO 2.0 / VEC01-N, rather than the older VEC01 name. At £849 it is the second-lowest starting price in this comparison. Its recorded features include 7.4kW single-phase charging, an untethered socket, Wi-Fi control through the evec app, smart scheduling, ECO solar charging, dynamic load balancing and RFID.

The warranty is listed as three years, extendable to five years. Check the extension conditions rather than treating five years as automatic. The unit is vecFLEX-ready, but rewards depend on scheme eligibility and participation. They are not a guaranteed discount on installation. Our EV charger rewards guide explains the schemes and conditions. No named tariff integration is recorded in this product's tariff fields, so we do not assume one.

Ohme ePod or Home Pro: choose the connection and display

Both Ohme products are listed at 7.4kW on a single-phase supply and carry a three-year warranty. The ePod starts at £949 and is the socketed choice. The Home Pro starts at £1,049, is tethered as standard, and has a listed 5m cable and LCD display.

Both catalogue entries list Octopus Intelligent Go, Octopus Go and Octopus Agile. Those named integrations make them useful candidates if tariff compatibility drives your decision. Confirm current eligibility with your energy supplier for your exact charger and vehicle combination. A product listing does not establish that every account qualifies or that the tariff's terms will remain unchanged.

Choose the Home Pro if having a cable ready to plug in and a display on the unit matters to you. Choose the ePod if you prefer a socketed layout. Check cable reach and current connection options on the product page before committing.

MyEnergi Zappi GLO: a solar-focused shortlist

The Zappi GLO starts at £1,049. Our catalogue lists a 7kW single-phase output, a tethered Type 2 cable of 6.5m, the myenergi app, load balancing and a three-year warranty. Its product description records Eco and Eco+ modes for using surplus solar generation.

It is a strong candidate when you already have solar or intend to add it. It is not the only solar-capable product here: Vestel, EVEC and Simpson & Partners also have solar mode recorded. Ask us to assess the charger alongside your existing solar equipment and the work needed to enable those features. Solar support does not mean every installation needs the same accessories or can charge entirely from surplus generation.

NexBlue Point 2: app control without an assumed solar feature

The Point 2 starts at £949. Recorded specifications include a Type 2 socket, single-phase 7.4kW output, Wi-Fi, the NexBlue app, scheduling, load balancing and a three-year warranty. Its product description also lists an IP65 enclosure and built-in PEN protection.

This particular catalogue entry has solar mode marked false. Do not choose it on an assumption that another NexBlue model's solar capabilities apply to it. Octopus Go is listed, but that should not be read as a promise of every Octopus integration. Compare the exact Point 2 listing with the other models if solar or a particular smart tariff is essential.

Simpson & Partners Home 7 Plus: design-led charging

At £1,199, the Home 7 Plus has the highest starting price in this active range. The catalogue records a Type 2 socket, single-phase 7kW output, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, app control, scheduling, solar charging and load balancing. Octopus Agile and OVO Drive Anytime are listed in its tariff-compatibility field.

Its listed warranty is three years, with ten years for the enclosure. The enclosure warranty is not a ten-year warranty on all electronics. It is worth shortlisting when appearance and colour choice matter, but paying more does not make it a faster charger than a 7.4kW model.

What an installed charger price actually includes

Compare like-for-like installed prices rather than a hardware-only price against a completed installation. Our product records for Vestel, NexBlue, Zappi and Simpson & Partners describe up to 10m of cabling and relevant electrical work, including a consumer-unit check. EVEC's entry explicitly includes a standard installation with up to 10m cable run, fixings, testing and certification.

Our installation cost guide describes the standard scope: a dedicated circuit with appropriate protection and earthing, fitting and commissioning, app setup, electrical testing and certification, and DNO notification where required. The Ohme product entries do not have a separate installation-scope text, so confirm the written scope in your quote rather than assuming an identical package from a blank field.

Additional work can include a cable route longer than 10m, a consumer unit without suitable capacity, trenching or containment across a driveway, or supply and earthing work. We have not put a generic surcharge on these because the route and electrical assessment matter. Your quote should identify any additional work before you approve it.

Photos, charging speed and the checks before installation

Useful assessment photos show the consumer unit, incoming electrical supply, proposed charger position and cable route. They help us assess the electrical work and explain whether the advertised standard-installation starting price fits your property. Uploading photos is an assessment step, not an automatic approval of the installation.

The chargers above are listed at 7kW or 7.4kW on single-phase supplies. That is their rated output, not a promise that every car charges at that rate continuously. Your vehicle's AC charging limit and the available electrical capacity also matter. Load balancing is listed across all seven products, but the appropriate setup and any required equipment still need checking for your home.

Before selecting a charger, confirm the cable can reach every parking position, the exact tariff integration you need, any solar requirements, the warranty conditions, and the installation scope. For more detail, read tethered versus socketed chargers and smart meters and EV charging.

    Our recommendation for your home

Start with the Vestel Libra if upfront price is the main constraint. Compare the two Ohme models if a listed Octopus integration is central to your plan. Put the Zappi GLO on your shortlist for solar, EVEC vecGO for its value and optional rewards, and Simpson & Partners for a design-led installation. NexBlue Point 2 remains an app-controlled socketed alternative, with the solar limitation noted above.

Compare current charger prices and options, then request a quote for your home. The best final choice is the one that meets your requirements with a clearly assessed installation cost.
